Korean War:
The Korean war began solely because of the spread of communism, and the retaliation by capitalism. The UN had a very hard time counseling about what to do. Also, the UN ended up not having Russia council veto because they were on probation at the time due to a conflict between them and the US about the Chinese being allowed to the UN. General Douglas MacArthur led UN troops through Korea, but when he got to the boarder he insisted that the US nukes China. Truman, knowing this would start yet another world war, denied his request and eventually fired him. By the end of the war there were about 4 million Korean casualties, mostly innocent civilians. The US on the other hand only lost 50,000 soldiers. The worst part of the war is that in the end it was mostly pointless as there is still both a communist North Korea and a Capitalist South Korea even today. |
Proxy War:A proxy war is a representative war, meaning that it uses basically stand in pawns for a different reason. The Korean war was really a war between communism and capitalism, both backed by the words superpowers. However, although we backed each Korea, the USSR and USA never actually fought.

Mao's Revolution:In 1949, Mao Zedong established the Peoples Republic of China which had a communist Government. This threw the US into a panic.
|
A Country Divided:Throughout the war, North Korea was led by Kim Il-Sung and backed by Communist China. South Korea was led by Syngman Rhee and backed by the UN.
