President Eisenhower:
Eisenhower became president after Truman died. When he became president, he was very focused on keeping pressure on the USSR . He was never involved in the civil rights movements because he was too focused on wartime efforts as an old WWII general. He initiated rebellions in Iran and Guatemala. He also refused to send troops to help the French in Vietnam, however to make up for this he did send some supplies such as napalm. Eisenhower also initiated many of the common modern organizations such as NASA and the CIA. He even created the modern highway system for quick military transportation if needed. Peterson:
Peterson was the new director of the Federal Civil Defense Administration. Instead of saying that there was a way to protect from a soviet atomic bomb he said there is no way to prevent, and that meant that the USA had to prepare. He was also present when the floor manager of the CIA announced that the Soviets had detonated a Hydrogen Bomb. There was a 7 second silence that is said to be the longest silence in history. |
