Levittown:
Levittown was the start of modern suburbia. Because of the idea of suburbs, the amount of homes in the US more than doubled. The idea was to make many similar homes close together where white american citizens could move to. This movement was called "white flight." It also inspired some homogeneity which is basically the grouping of citizens with certain skin colors to an area. Around the time that suburbs were introduced, many modern conveniences became more common such as fridges, vacuums, and TV's. Also, fast food became popular as spots for dates or just to hang out. |
Rock & Roll:Rock and roll was a new form of music in the 1950's. New stars such as Elvis and the Beetles were introduced. Also, drive in's became very popular.

Civil Rights:The civil rights movement began near the end of WWII, but didn't really take off until the 1960's.

Middle Class Whites:The middle class for white people grew immensely. Almost 80% of white homes had a car and about 14% had more than one car. However, this growth in the white middle class just made segregation even more prominent. Also, at this time more than 50% of blacks were in poverty. This separation caused a feeling of inferiority which caused some brain damages.
