Review: 13 Days is a Hollywood movie based on the Cuban Missile Crisis. It goes through each day of the crisis, showing what happened on the day. The first half off the movie was very accurate with details from how the USA discovered the missiles on Cuba, to the decision to make a quarantine around Cuba to prevent soviet ships from continuing to ship supplies to Cuba. Later on in the movie the plot started to deviate from the actual story. In the movie, President Kennedy decided to leak the idea that the US was removing their missiles from Turkey, hoping the Soviets would see and do the same with Cuba. In reality, the public never knew about the US missiles in Turkey. Overall, though, this movie is very accurate to how the actual events went down, especially for a Hollywood movie. It even keeps the audience engaged in moments that would be extremely boring in a textbook. |
